Topic 2: How can i introduce socio-emotional learning in curricula?
Socio-emotional learning can be introduced in curricula in several ways, which must be related to the subjects taught. With embedded SEL, that is SEL built right into their programs; teachers teach while giving students the support they need by building classroom climate, fostering student social development, increasing student confidence, and encouraging student empathy. In the course, we will deal with different ways of embedding SEL, which attain the teacher’s methodology, content, and classroom interaction.
Developing life skills requires the development of a unique integrated approach. It requires teachers to pay special attention not only to teaching but also to the more general educational process and the tools to build social skills in the generation of digital natives.
Social-emotional learning is essential to gain and maintain motivation throughout the whole learning process, which is a life-long one.
It Deals With
- Self-Awareness: Understanding yourself
- Self-Management: Controlling impulses, stress, and emotions
- Social Awareness: Understanding the perspectives and feelings of others
- Relationship Skills: Communication, Cooperation, and Conflict resolution with others
- Responsible Decision Making: Identifying problems and brainstorming solutions (CASEL – Daniel Goleman 2018)
