Video 3: “Doll Test: The effects of racism on children”

In this video, the 1940s American psychological experiment called “The Doll Test” created to measure the degree of marginalization experienced by African American children due to prejudice, discrimination and racial segregation (Clark 1947), is re-created with modern day Italian children of color (Lavarone L. and Durso R. 2016). What is evident is that prejudice and discrimination are notions that can not be easily eradicated from societal experiences and thoughts. This is indicated in the fact that there is a marked similarity in the self-perception of African American children in the 1940s and Italian children of color in the Italy in 2016. 

This video shows the effects of prejudice on us. Unfortunately, few people can muster the ability to escape societal shortcomings and compelling. The majority seem to conform to the overarching notion even if they are experiencing the negative feeling it is creating. Why do the children identify the black dolls as ugly or bad? They look very similar to them, so one should expect that they would not feel like that. One could argue that prejudice is the reason for such a phenomenon.
